Tips for Cleaning Baby Ears

One needs to be very cautious while taking care of a baby’s cleanliness and when it comes to cleaning baby ears, we need to be extremely careful as ear is one of the most delicate body parts. Here are some of the tips for cleaning baby ears.
  • First and foremost, bathe your baby in lukewarm water. Then, you can use a wet sponge or a wet tissue to clean the outer part of the ear. Make sure you are as gentle as possible while cleaning and scrubbing baby ears.
  • While cleaning baby ears, keep the baby warm by draping them in a towel in order to safe guard your child from the risk of catching cold.
  • Avoid using soap as the harsh chemicals may cause irritation in the ear. Gently scrub the gap behind the ears as it is the most common place where ear wax builds up.
  • To clean the inner ear, dampen the cloth and squeeze out extra water. Roll the cloth and gently insert it inside the ear and roll it with caution. This way you can clean out any debris from the outer canal of baby ear.
  • Now wipe the ear using a clean and dry towel.
  • Avoid using cotton buds that are meant for adults for cleaning baby ears as their ear drums are much more delicate and scratch prone as compared to adults.
In this way you can clean baby ears by yourself. However, you are advised to let your child’s pediatrician do the cleaning of the ears as they have special instruments for cleaning baby ears that eliminates all risks and chances of infection. Some children develop excessive wax, in such case you must see a doctor and let him flush out the wax from the ears.
